Join Us: One Foot Forward for Mental Health in October
October is Mental Health month and Body Agility are participating in the Black Dog Institute's 'One Foot Forward' walk for mental health as a team and we invite you to join us with walking events being scheduled across Perth during October!
Why One Foot Forward?
Because mental health matters.
· 1 in 5 Australians will experience symptoms of mental illness each year.
· Suicide is the number 1 cause of death for people aged between 15 and 44 in Australia.
· 60% of those experiencing mental illness symptoms do not seek treatment
· By 2030 depression will be the leading health concern worldwide
Here at Body Agility we know that at some point in our lives, each of us will be impacted by mental illness, whether it is ourselves, or someone we care about. Body Agility are advocates for the promotion of mental health and we believe that exercise is a key contributor to mental health. Read our blog about this here.
Why Did We Choose The Black Dog Institute?
Thankfully, the Black Dog Institute are here to help. They spend their time actively researching mental illness and suicide prevention at a world-class level which enables them to provide high-quality clinical care and evidence based education programs for health professionals and schools. They are completely dedicated to putting ground-breaking new mental health tools that work, into the hands of the people who need them. To keep this energy and momentum going they have asked for help from our community (and that’s where we step in).
Our team (also affectionately known as our "work family") have registered and we’d love to invite you to become part of our "extended work family" and join us to raise awareness for this significant cause and collectively improve our community's mental health - you may even make new friends!
Please don’t worry if you don’t want to fundraise. We are doing this to create a micro-community of caring people to raise awareness for the great work that the Black Dog Institute are doing. We are also doing this to show our support for those impacted by mental illness and suicide.
Together, let's create a supportive community where anyone can participate and enjoy connectedness and have the opportunity to make new friends during mental health month. We’ll be organising walking events for our team throughout October across Perth and we would love for you to join in the fun.
